Hillcrest Compassion Center

Hillcrest Marijuana Dispensary

I read there are over 80 marijuana dispensaries in San Diego County, but I had never noticed one until yesterday while returning from Ashby’s liberal arts class in Balboa Park. Hillcrest Compassion Center. There are more than 400 dispensaries in Los Angeles County.

Balancing

Ashby and Roesevelt have been awfully sick this week. So, this weekend we decided to stay in and lie low. We did manage to make it to the Hillcrest Market for lunch and this week’s flowers, fruit and produce.

There are always such well groomed men at the Hillcrest market.

Today I’m spending my day catching up on writing for work. Interspersed with the work stuff I’m giving my girls makeovers. Ashby started it by giving me a make over initially. :-)

Sunday Family Fun

I think Tara’s make over is especially hot.

410 Degrees

I discovered a company named 410 Degrees at the Farmers’ Market in Hillcrest today. It is a small company with no store front. The owner was working the booth. He sells from the Internet and at local Farmers’ Markets. The cookies were amazing. There were some unique combinations like rosemary and olive oil, ginger, lemon basil, etc. I got Ashby a “fireworks” cookie and Tara and I shared a chocolate cherry.

The owner was super nice. The cookies were, as I already wrote, amazing. Check out the website. At the website you create your own customized cookies and they will deliver to anywhere in the country.

“A Snob Free Salon”

Ashby and I got our hair cut together at our usual salon in Hillcrest. The salon is called “Hairspray” and proclaims on its sign that it is a “high energy – snob free salon”. This is fairly accurate. We have been getting our haircut there for about a year now. Everyone there loves Ashby. And Ashby loves being coiffed. Of course, I am happy because the prices are reasonable, which is hard to come by in San Diego.

I used the built in collage tool in Picassa to create the above collage. In the event you are not familiar with Picassa it is free and is arguably the best photo management tool

Hillcrest Farmers’ Market

We missed the Little Italy Farmers’ Market on Saturday so decided to get our week of produce and vegetables at the much bigger Hillcrest Market. $36 dollars and we left with two bouquets of fresh flowers, carrots, onions, tomatoes, lemon cucumber, broccoli, lettuce, strawberries, cantaloupe and baby squash. A cornucopia of fresh organic fruits, vegetables and flowers for the entire week.

We usually go to the Little Italy market, even though it is smaller, because I can park at the office. Also, you can see the harbor from every vantage point in the market. It’s gorgeous. However, the variety at Hillcrest is superior. Indeed, friends have told me the Hillcrest Market’s diversity is superior to San Francisco’s largest Farmers’ Market. Parking is surprisingly easy at the Hillcrest Market. I have always managed a spot only a couple blocks from the market and it has never taken me more than 5-10 minutes to park.

Another benefit of the Hillcrest Market not found in Little Italy:

I’m blessed with awesome co-workers

I work with a group of really amazing people. I say this because everyone I work with is really talented and brilliant, but also because on Friday I came into work to find a Christmas gift from my co-workers wrapped with a bow on my office chair. My first longboard!

I grew up with a skateboard. It was solely transportation for me. And where I grew up in Morgan Hill, CA the street conditions did not lend well to skating. I recently bought a very short board with a Russ Pope design; although it’s aesthetically appealing the trucks and wheels on it suck for street skating. Or perhaps just suck period. I’ve attempted to skate the 2.5 miles to work a couple times and invariably I jump on the bus about half way there. I’ve been meaning to outfit it with more suitable trucks and wheels, but mostly I was planning/hoping to get a longboard.

_

Needless to say, I was touched and blown away when I was gifted a longboard from everyone at the office. Frickin’ sweet! :-) With my new board I ventured out and skated Mission Hills and Hillcrest this weekend..a few times.

If you look closely at my leg in the photo above you’ll detect evidence of my lack of experience.

Apparently Guy Fawkes shops in Hillcrest.
