Interwebs dig pregnant chicks

When I post a photo to Flickr ~10 views in the first 12 hours is pretty good. I posted this photo of Tara last night:

And it racks up 150 unique views in the first 12 hours. What the hell? I know she’s hot, but is there that many people on the Interwebs with prego fetishes?

By the by, Tara is 7 months pregnant with my son: Roesevelt David Fulkerson. I snapped this photo a few days ago after Tara’s morning run. Yes, she runs and yes. it does get a lot of looks through Mission Hills and Hillcrest.

Christmas lights and baking

Playdoh Cookies - yes, they're awesome goodI spent three+ hours baking yesterday. Ashby sat on the counter and helped out. We made Christmas treats for he neighbors. Most of which have brought Ashby gifts and treats in the last week. Being the only child in the neighborhood she’s a bit of a celebrity. We made playdoh cookies and bark chocolate. I’m not a fan of the bark chocolate. Too sweet. The playdoh cookies are awesome though.

After baking we headed to 3606 Garrison Street in Point Loma. I can’t describe the lengths to which this block has gone to create a Christmas wonderland. Animatronics, lights galore even a real life Santa was hired on at one house! It’s bordering on obscene. I have never seen anything like this. The block has about 6-8 houses on it that have gone all out. Some houses have so many lights it is nearly daylight.

The most bizarre/amazing feature of some of these houses were the displays some had built into their windows. One house had a dozen window boxes with animatronics reindeer, Santa, Disney characters, manger scenes, etc… One of the "window" displays was actually bay windows into what must have been their dining room and the entire room was turned into a massive animatronic Santa’s workshop!

If you’re into Christmas or Christmas lights and displays make your way to 3606 Garrison Street in Point Loma. Say hello if you see us, we plan to visit more than once.

Zemanta

Image representing Zemanta as depicted in Crun...

I ❤ Zemanta. I’ve been using the WordPress plugin here at my personal blog for months. I had it installed at the MindTouch blog. I use the Live Writer plugin. It’s great. Why? Automatic links, images, related articles and tags. Imagine an auto-search in your blog sidebar while you’re writing that provides contextually relevant information and images to enrich your content. You can even provide your Flickr account and pull content from this as well! Love it. I will point out that Zemanta does a very poor job of providing contextually relevant content about themselves.

For the penguins…

centreI’m really psyched about our current campaign at MindTouch to encourage open source users to upgrade to the commercial build of MindTouch Deki. Any MindTouch Deki Open Source user that upgrades to MindTouch Deki Commercial (Deki Standard or Enterprise) will have a donation made on their behalf to the World Wildlife Fund, which will pay to save an endangered emperor penguin. Sarah describes it in full at the MindTouch blog. We just announced this campaign earlier this week in our December Newsletter. Last I checked, MindTouch had already saved six penguins on the behalf of others. The campaign got some pick up in the blogosphere too. Mhinkle wrote about it, as did Lisa at Ostatic.

Google Profile – Social Capital

I was trying to find my Google social profile tonight. Side note: It’s a shame how Google killed Ringside Networks. It would have been nice to have this all open source. Yes, that was a little evil. Anyway, I couldn’t find my Google profile anywhere. Were it not for a Brogan post that provided “a link to your profile here” I may have just given up.

Google profile

In Brogan’s post he makes an interesting point that I had already suspected. In fact, this is why I was looking for my social profile. You see, when one uses any Google property, let’s say to write a review for a business, your social profile is linked to from your review, comment, whatever… This has the benefit of carrying some social capital a person, or company, can benefit from. As Brogan points out, you should tidy up your profile.

Aqua Pros Swimming School

Ashby at swimming class

Ashby has been attending swimming classes for a few months. She goes once a week with her mother. Ashby loves it even though her instructor pushes her to do things she would rather not. I had the unique pleasure of attending one of these swimming classes today. It was great! Ashby was almost as excited to have me there as I was to be there.

As for the quality of the swim school. I can testify that the staff were friendly and professional, the facilities well equipped and clean. Moreover, the cost is significantly lower than other schools Tara assessed.

El Camino Real Photo Project

Note: Read my previous post for the complete back story about the ECR Project.

Ricky Montalvo sums up the project quite well:

_The El Camino Real Project is a photographic journey down “The Royal Road”, also known as The King’s Highway, the 600-mile (966-kilometer) California Mission Trail which is now a stretch of California road that consists of small businesses, homes and various motels. From So. San Francisco to San Diego, El Camino Real has a rich visual history. We aim to capture it.

Abigail Adams

Abigail Adams.

I just finished “John Adams” by McCullough. It was a great read. McCullough layers you with facts and clearly cites potential conjecture. After reading the book I’ve found a new perspective on the immaturity of America in those early days. It has made me less cynical for the absurdity of our times. Also, the read makes me more optimistic for our current national crises. Most of all, I’m thoroughly impressed by Abigail Adams. What an amazing person. I was far more impressed by Abigail than I was by her husband, who clearly was a great man in his own right.
